Store Wars

Two Colaspot readers I spoke with this weekend - and yes, we have two readers, thanks - were asking if I could post some info about tomorrow’s release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on DVD. There’s been some confusion about who is offering the best bet, as several stores have exclusive promotions. Here’s what I’ve been able to find:

Wal-Mart - The ultimate evil empire is selling the DVD for $15.87. For $5 more, they are selling it along with a bonus DVD that Wal-Mart’s website describes as C-3PO and R2-D2 telling the history of the Skywalker clan. It sounds like a lame clipshow recapping all the films, so you’re probably not missing much if you want to shop elsewhere.

Target - Target’s ad for this week did one of those horribly lame stunts where they put another product that sells for $14.99 next to the Episode III DVD making it look like it is also priced $14.99. However, closer inspection reveals a small “Low Price” under Episode III. Why do ads do this? Why even release an ad if you’re not going to reveal the price of your items? Are they too scared another ad will have them beat? Anyway, their website has it for $15.98, so the store should be somewhat the same. Their special collector’s item with your purchase is a Darth Vader coin. YES!!! Best promotional item ever!!! Also, Target is selling an exclusive Star Wars soundtrack featuring the best music from Episodes I-VI.

Best Buy - They’re selling the DVD with a limited edition lithograph for $14.99.

From what I’ve been able to find, these are your best bets. Let me know if you find a better offer, and I’ll do an update.
